sweet healthy snack

Just finished an all "raw" day. No I didn't walk around in my birthday suit. That would be scary. I started and ended a day full of raw food. I am trying to teach all I know to my daughter Alyssa before she gets married. So we spent a good portion of the day preparing raw foods, and trying recipes.  We had sweet and sour veggie nut stuffer, lots of sugar snap peas, carrots, celery and cauliflower, and we dipped till our hearts content.  I juiced carrot, beet and apple for breakfast, and had everyone drink their "green" drink. Mid morning snack was organic raw oats, blackberries, tiny bit of honey, and a couple spoons of organic plain yogurt. I didn't want to use any animal products today, but it just sounded so good with those juicy berries.
After dinner I threw together a "shake."
2 frozen bananas
coconut milk about 1 and a half cups
you can use almond or rice milk as well.
2 T raw almond butter
3T carob powder
7 large ice cubes
hand full of pumpkin seeds
hand full of almonds
1T of chia seeds
1 T raw honey
some raw unsweetened coconut
I whirled it around in the vita mix blender for a couple minutes. No vita mix? Use the food processor.
It tends to be more like ice cream, so add more liquid to thin as you go.
This made enough for 4 of us to have a glass full.
Be careful, this can be very filling and addicting! Have fun with it and experiment. I don't even like carob, and I like this one. If you don't have carob have it without, it will taste more nutty.
Enjoy!

The first day

I was asked quite sometime ago, if I "blogged".  I quickly replied, "no". I don't have the time.  After evaluating the time I do have, I decided that I need to blog because it would actually save me time. Why you might ask? Well, the way I see it, I only have to write it once, or post a recipe once, you can see where I am going with this can't you?. This way you don't always have to wait for me to find my phone or start up my computer to find an e-mail. And, if you are on here reading this it's because you already have an interest, I don't have to hunt you down and fill you with all my latest health facts. You can just click, and I am done. I see this as a supplement to what I already do. I love a good challenge, and I love to learn. So, don't stop calling me or stopping me to ask a question, if I have an answer I will be glad to give it, if not I will refer or research on your behalf.
For those of you that know me well, I tend to be a bit zealous or shall I say passionate about food. (among other things) I have so many things that I will swim up stream about, so I will start with a single focus. FOOD.
We have to make a decision about food several times a day. Have you ever really thought about what you are putting in your mouth? Do you really care? I have a personal philosophy about food, and it goes something like this. If you are disciplined about what you put in your mouth, and you educate yourself about how we are fearfully and wonderfully made, then discipline in other areas of our lives will ultimately be easier. If you don't understand what I am talking about, just stick with me a few days, and you will.
I tend to be all over the place at times, so I will try to remain focused on a topic each day. I will say that will be extremely hard for me!
I hope to touch on topics ranging from gardening, to home remedies, and so much more in between.
I think this is going to be a wild ride, and I look forward to the "food fight!"
